About Us

The Academy Background: An amazing academy of excellence!
In 2007 about 25% of young people killed in London were from British Congolese families. The Camden Report of 2010/ 2011 highlighted that these children achieved poor GCSE and A-level grades in Maths, English, Culture and had reduced accessibility to sports, outings, etc. In 2023 Arts and Science are added up to our curricula.

As parents, anxious to boost children, we came together and decided to create this school for the well-being and empowering of our children and put in place parenting skills. The Cartesians Academy is a school of volunteers working together to help the young people at risk, parents, our community, and society to go forward whether in education or football skills.

Brief History

The Cartesians Academy is dedicated to hearing the voices of our young people, and so last year we asked them what activity they would like to be introduced into our weekly activities.

Before the pandemic, our young people spoke, and opted to introduce Judo into our weekly courses for their physical, emotional and psychological well-being.

Granting their wishes, we have decided to make contact with the British Judo Council (BJC) in order to provide the correct support for our students in this new and exciting practice!

We began our Judo course for a brief period at the beginning of 2020 but stopped teachings due to the pandemic.

Other projects on parents over Covid-19 and other issues related are being undertaken now

This policy sets out how the Cartesians Academy Supplementary School will meet its statutory duty under section 175 of the Education Act 2002 to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and help them to achieve good outcomes. The Cartesians Academy will achieve this by providing a safe learning environment and ensuring that school staff have the skills and knowledge to take action when children need extra support from early help services or require a social work service because they are at risk of harm. We provide a full copy of the Safeguarding policy on request. On 21 March 2026, Dianne from VAC will host a training in CASS Setting, London N19 5DQ.
